Editions performed in Faro by Oniria
Next Saturday, September 23rd, 17h00, several of my music editions will be performed by the Andalusian sackbut & cornett ensemble Oniria Sacabuche in Faro, directed by Daniel Anarte.
The programme includes instrumental performance of several masterpieces of Portuguese and Andalusian composers of the seventeenth century. Works by Portuguese composers who worked in Spain such as Estêvão de Brito and Manuel Leitão de Avilez; Spanish composers such as Cristóbal de Morales, Francisco Guerrero, Alonso Lobo, and Rodrigo de Ceballos; and Portuguese composers Duarte Lobo and Fr. Manuel Cardoso.
The concert features two of my editions: the antiphon Asperges me (from the 1621 Liber Primus) by Duarte Lobo, which I prepared for Edições MPMP, and the motet Cum audisset Joannes by Fr. Manuel Cardoso, from his 1648 Livro de varios motetes, that is yet to published. I am very happy to see theses works being performed, especially by an instrumental formation of this kind which emphasises the craftsmanship of these composers, with Oniria’s high-level of informed performance.
This concert is part of the exhibition “Pinturas do Barroco em Sevilha e no Algarve – Contactos, Coincidências e Discordâncias”, which will show works by Portuguese masters such as Oliveira Bernardes and Marcos da Cruz, together with Spanish masters such as Bartolomé Murillo and Francisco de Zurbarán.
