Paper at Simposio de Jóvenes Investigadores del Barroco Iberoamericano
Tomorrow, April 10th, I’ll be presenting a paper at the first day of the IV Simposio Internacional Jóvenes Investigadores del Barroco Iberoamericano “Las orillas del Barroco”, in the beautiful city of Cáceres (Spain).
This paper will focus on the problematic of transition in the works of two composers from Évora Cathedral from the second half of the seventeenth century and first half of the eighteenth century, notably Diogo Dias Melgaz and his successor as chapel master of the Cathedral, Pedro Vaz Rego. One of the examples of this kind of new sonorities in old structures is clearly perceptible in the motet Memento homo , for Ash Wednesday shared in this post.
